Lesson Plan

  • Lesson plan using Wordwall

I have developed this lesson plan considering my students´ age (15-16) and their level of English (intermediate). I work in a secondary school in San Isidro. English lessons are twice a week and each one is 60 minutes long. The aim is to work on vocabulary about money and shopping. As computer and Internet connection are a must so as to work with Wordwall, I had to book the ICT lab first. So for this lesson, students will work in another classroom.

Communicative Goal: Talking about money and shopping
Grammar focus: ---
Vocabulary focus: worth, bargain, save, spend, rip-off, luxury, consumer, business, marketing, producer, retailer, promote, brand, advertisement.
Recycled grammar: Present simple, past simple
Duration of the class: 60 minutes

Lesson Plan

Activation: (time allotted: 5 minutes)

The teacher asks students what expensive things they would like to spend money on? She tells sts they are going to do a price puzzle about the most expensive objects in the world.
Comprehension and Clarification:  (time allotted: 15 minutes)
Students work on the price puzzle and then find what their prices are. Then the T asks different questions so as to elicit the key words related to money and shopping. tells them to open their books and look at some products; they seem to cheap but in fact, they are not.  She writes the words on the bb, and then clarifies their meaning.

Application: ( time allotted: 35 minutes)

Now, the T explains to students they will be working on Wordwall (They already know how to use it). In groups of three, students will be working on a different Wordwall template. The T will assign them what template to use. Each group prepares a different activity, which will shared with the rest of the class. The T will give tell them how to embed and share the activities so that everybody can work on it. The activities will be displayed on the teacher´s account. Activities will be numbered because they range from pseudo to communicative ones. Students will be allotted 15 minutes to prepare the activity; they will have to use only the words which the T has written on the bb.

  •  Actitity #1: Match up

Activity type: Pseudo communicative
Brief description: Match up: Sts work on the `Match up' template. Using the the newly learnt words, sts type this content in the long rectangular box. On the left side of this box, they have to type the Word, and on the right the definition. Once all the words and definitions are written, students have to click the 'done' and the activity is ready. The aim is to drag the Word and then drop it next to its definition.

  • Activity #2: Maze Chase

Activity type: pseudo- communicative
Brief description:  Students type the keyword, then they choose four pictures, one of them illustrates the key Word; the others are distractors. They pick the pictures from the web. Once the four pictures are selected. They click ' done'  and ready to start. It is game similar to ' Pacman'. The game starts when the keyword appears on screen and they have to run to picture that illustrates the Word. But, there will enemies sts have to avoid on their run the anwer zone.

  • Activity #3: Game Show

Activity type: Quasi- communicative
Brief description: This activity consists of a multiple choice quiz with time pressure, lifelines and a bonus round. Students write a question with the keyword and there are four answers, but only one must be correct. Example? Why is she saving money? Possible answers are: a- she has passed her Maths test, b- she wants to buy a car, c- her dog is missing.

  • Activity #4:Ransom Wheel
