Using Voki.com

What is Voki? What can teachers do with this tool?

Voki is an educational web 2.0 tool that allows users to create their very own talking character. Characters can be customized to look like historical figures, cartoons, animals, and even yourself. You can also give your Voki a voice by recording with a microphone, using our dial-in number, or uploading an audio file. These characters can be emailed, shared on social media, and embedded on websites.



How do students have to do in this lesson?

1-    They have to create an account, which is for free.

2-    Once they log in, students click on Creations and on the left they will see a bar with different options students can choose to customize their avatar´s features. They can scroll through hair, clothing, city views, background, etc. Once their avatar is finished, the save it.




3    3- Now, they give it a voice. They can record their voice for up to 60 seconds using any of the following options: Type & use text to speech feature, record using your devices built-in microphone or upload a previously recorded audio file. They save it and then they publish their Voki avatar on to the teacher´s blog.

What is Wordwall ?   Wordwall a web-based tool that   offers teachers an easy way to extend and consolidate vocabulary with fun practice. Internet-based Project work and Webquests According to Hockley & Dudeney (2007), Internet-based work correlates to project work, in which the Internet can be thought of as an enormous encyclopedia because it gives learners quick access to a wide array of information. There are four compelling reasons why Internet-based work should be included in the classroom: 1.   No specialist technical knowledge is required. Lesson plan using Wordwall I have developed this lesson plan considering my students´ age (15-16) and their level of English (intermediate). I work in a secondary school in San Isidro. English lessons are twice a week and each one is 60 minutes long. The aim is to work on vocabulary about money and shopping. As computer and Internet connection are a must so as to work with Wordwall, I had to book the ICT lab first. So for this lesson, students will work in another classroom.
